Description of cover
This section gives a brief overview of each element of cover. You can also click to view the full definition of most items or view the policy summary.
All cover is subject to conditions and also includes exclusions which can be found in the full policy wording. Feel free to contact us if you are unsure about any aspect of cover.
Permanent and temporary military kit insurance
Worldwide cover for permanent and temporary military kit is automatically included in our policies for armed forces.
You can insure your issued and owned uniforms and kit for up to £7,500 wherever you are in the world. This automatically includes cover for temporary issue service equipment that is on personal charge to you. There is a limit of £1,500 for any one item.
Cover does not include wear and tear or damage caused during cleaning or maintenance. There is a £50 excess for this cover.
Home contents insurance
Forces Plan is designed to automatically provide £60,000 of cover for your household contents but this can be increased or decreased to meet your personal requirements (if you live in barrack or single living accommodation, for example, you are likely to need lower cover).
Cover is included for loss or damage by the usual 'insurance causes' such as fire, flood and theft, plus accidental damage. It also automatically insures your household contents for worldwide removals and storage with professional removers anywhere in the world.
It does not include accidental damage caused by pets, nor does it cover chipping, denting or scratching to furniture whilst in transit. There is a £50 excess for this cover.
Even if you live in barrack or single living accommodation, don't forget that you may still need cover for household items such as television, microwave, bedding and stereo. See contents hints and tips for more information.
Personal possessions insurance
This includes worldwide cover for personal items that you normally take away from the home such as clothes, mobile phones, MP3 players, laptops, sports equipment and pedal cycles. It does not include any money or credit cards but it does include valuables.
There is a £50 excess for each claim (£75 for canoes).
If you are insuring your home contents, the amount of personal possessions insurance you choose should cover the maximum that you might take away from the home at any one time, including holidays. Otherwise, this should be the value of all your personal possessions.
Personal accident insurance
If you or a member of your family has an accident which causes serious injury or death, Forces Plan can help ease the financial strain.
Personal accident insurance automatically covers you for most leisure sports (including winter and extreme sports) plus flying as a crew member, hang-gliding, gliding or ballooning. It only provides cover for injury or death which has been caused by unforeseen accidental means. Further details of cover and exclusions can be found in the full policy wording.
There is a £50 excess for each claim.
